Our Story
Rooted in craft since 2008
What began as one designer, one mason and a borrowed truck is now Fairfield County's most decorated landscape studio — still small enough to care about every square foot.
How We Began
Two trades. One obsession.
Sage & Stone was founded by a landscape architect and a third-generation stonemason who kept getting hired for the same projects — and kept arguing about which mattered more, the planting or the stone. The answer, of course, was the conversation between them.
Eighteen years later, that conversation is our entire philosophy: living material and built material, designed as one. Our studio now includes degreed designers, master masons, horticulturists and a full estate-care division — every one of them on our payroll, never subcontracted.
What We Believe
Four values, non-negotiable
Design First
Nothing gets built that hasn't been drawn, questioned and improved. Paper is cheaper than regret.
Built In-House
Our own crews, our own standards. We never hand your property to a subcontractor we can't vouch for.
Honest Numbers
Fixed proposals, line-item pricing, zero surprise invoices. If scope changes, you approve it first.
Long Stewardship
A landscape is a relationship. Most clients have been with us five years or more — many since day one.

The Hillcrest Estate project wins statewide recognition — the first of twelve industry awards.
The studio opens
A converted riverside mill becomes our design studio, materials library and client meeting space.
640 projects strong
A 42-person team, a five-year hardscape warranty, and a client retention rate we're fiercely proud of.
